Simon Tesler, Director of Parade House, Trowbridge came into the Radio Bath studio as my guest on The UnNoticed Entrepreneur LIVE. 


Trowbridge resident Simon Tesler has experienced the highs and lows of entrepreneurship over his more than 40 year career. Tesler got his start as a young university student in 1980, co-founding the magazine Blitz with his wife Carey. The magazine was a huge success in the 1980s boom but unfortunately had to close during the 1990s recession due to reduced advertising spending. 


Fortunately they had already started to transition to a business publishing and database venture. They later sold that company to Pearson in the late 1990s. Tesler worked for Pearson for a time but left when he found that being an intrapreneur wasn't the right path for him. 


He then founded the advertising database company AdBrands, running it successfully for 24 years before selling it to focus on new ventures.*


Most recently, the dynamic duo purchased and renovated the historic Parade House building in Trowbridge. Parade House Trowbridge is a Grade I listed Georgian townhouse in the historic heart of the County Town of Wiltshire. Built in around 1720 for the wealthy cloth merchant Robert Houlton, it is one of the town's finest and most elegant buildings, the centrepiece of what Pevsner's Guide  to Wiltshire described as a "stretch of palaces" along Fore Street.  


They have transformed the Grade 1 listed building into a vibrant events venue, bar and restaurant, helping to revitalize the town.


This is a wide ranging conversation about business, life, and the impact that entrepreneurs can make for good.

On the first Tuesday of each month I host the UnNoticed Entrepreneur Live on the local community station, Radio Bath.


For March I hosted Lucy Beck, the founder and CEO of A to Z Cloud, the largest premium partner of Zoho in the UK.


Lucy was voted Wiltshires Leading Woman in Tech in 2023 at the Business South West Awards, and her company was awarded Outstanding Organisation in the same year at the Tech South West Awards, and was Tech Company of the Year in 2021 at the Tech South West Awards.


Lucy shares her inspiring journey from South Africa to the UK, highlighting her resilience and determination in overcoming challenges, including taking on the new game of squash and becoming #33 in the country!


She shared the challenge of finding a female toilet at British Steel, her reaction to seeing an Apple Computer, and how as a single mom she started her own IT consultancy, "because it was the obvious thing to do!" {ed note - it's not an obvious choice in my humble opinion].


Lucy reflects on her entrepreneurial success, including winning awards and growing her company into the largest Zoho premium partner in the UK. 


She shares valuable insights on building a diverse and talented team, embracing cultural differences, and navigating the highs and lows of entrepreneurship. 

Lucy's vision for the future involves expanding globally and empowering her team to excel.


Throughout the episode, Lucy's passion and authenticity shine through, creating a warm and engaging conversation.

Inspirational entrepreneur Jayla Wilcox came into the studio this week to be my guest on The UnNoticed Entrepreneur Live.


Different to my podcast, this is a live one hour show with a "Talk & Tunes" format that I devised specifically for radio.


Jayla has worked in the recruitment industry for many years, even though she studied law, and her success within the industry led her to her current role as MD at Simple Recruitment Jayla's area of specialism has always been ‘high street’ recruitment on both a temporary and permanent basis across all sectors.  Jayla founded Simple Recruitment in 2009, serving clients around Bath and the South West of England.


Starting as a consultant, she has experienced many facets of the recruitment industry and due to her success she has climbed the ladder quickly, from managing super-branches with £3million+ turnover in the Bristol marketplace, to Area Management covering 6 offices across Somerset and Wiltshire. 


It was always her ambition to start her own employment business that delivers a high quality, cost effective service but moreover an employment business that understands the importance of working with clients and candidates to find what is right for them- especially in an increasingly challenging market place. We hear about the amazing support of her family, her passion for client service, and attitude of "the only way is up."

  Some key takeaways from her life story:

- There is no competition, because you are uniquely you.

- Teams create success, and building a happy working environment keeps teams together.

- Purpose, in her case her 2 daughters, keep the entrepreneur moving forward even during the hard times.



Before the interview Jayla and I had a 45 minute session when we talked about the format of the show, and her song selection.

It's really important before being a guest on any show, or for any interview, that you take the time with the host to understand what's going to happen, the flow of the conversation, and what you would like to share.

" I found it a great deal of fun as a guest - the set up was light and not at all invasive or formal. The challenge of attributing songs to various scenarios of my business journey was a lot of fun and was a lovely was to piece my journey together I thought.

It was nice to get to speak about what and how and why I have arrived at the destination I am currently at and what motivates me to continue the journey. Very enjoyable. Thank you Jim"
