I'm delighted to share my experiences as a serial entrepreneur. I've set up companies on three continents, all self-funded and profitable. In between setting up companies that failed, I've been involved in non-profit activities and raised a multi-cultural family.

Join today's episode of my Storytelling Show, I got another adventurer on the mic. In Episode 6, I listened to Jim James's story. Jim is an entrepreneur with a journey full of pivotal moments and lessons.

What got me hooked from the first sentence, was his bold skydiving jump at the early age of 17. His milestones go in an unstoppable sequence after that, leading him to countries like China, Japan, and Australia, kicking off his business path.

The author of the book, "The Unnoticed Entrepreneur" has made a significant mark in business. I am forever grateful that he took the time to let me and you, viewers and listeners, explore his journey further.

S2 E6 The UnNoticed Entrepreneur with Phil Masielo

Jim has built businesses from a suitcase on three continents over the past 25 years, all using public relations. His first brush with "getting noticed" was at age 18, when he jumped out of a plane in return for sponsorship and received expedition equipment in exchange for media publicity. He hasn’t stopped this model of brand-business building since then. Having grown up in Europe, Africa, and America, Jim moved to Singapore at the age of 28 to start his first company, EASTWEST Public Relations. Since 1995, the B2B agency has opened offices in Singapore, China, India, and the UK, serving over 500 predominantly B2B tech clients.
In China between 2006 and 2019, Jim built the business importing and distributing Morgan Motor Company cars, was interim CEO of Lotus, vice chair of the British Chamber of Commerce in China, founding president of the EO Network Beijing Chapter, and a number of other profit and not for profit ventures, including the biannual British Business Awards. He was awarded the “Top International Innovator” award by Top Touch media in China in 2017. Jim returned with his young family to the UK in June 2019. He hosts "The UnNoticed Show" and is a published author author under Wiley (NYSE:WLY) and coach. He enjoys spending his time listening to podcasts while waiting for his daughters and walking his Beagle in the Wiltshire countryside.

Now I always tell my clients that it is very difficult to build an agency using freelance staff because it’s like building a business on quicksand however Jim shares a very different perspective to this and outlines exactly what he has done to build his agency using freelance and contract staff.

How story attracts attention to the unnoticed entrepreneur.

As a business owner, you know content marketing is king. And you want to share information that will capture attention to increase your exposure and send your engagement rates through the roof in spite all your efforts, you feel unnoticed.

Your messaging isn’t connecting because you’re not amplifying it for engagement. When you focus on making it simple, innovative and context-sensitive that’s when your audience will sit up and finally take notice.

Tune in as Jim dives deeper into his five-step Speak PR process, how you can trigger the “Cascade Theory” of people sharing your story and where you score on his Active Communications Index.
